A second life for Yukon wood

As a woodcarver residing in Whitehorse, I am channeling my passion for woodcraft into unique pieces sourced from the Yukon’s rugged landscapes — driftwood, downed trees, and reclaimed wood. Each creation undergoes a transformative process, blending careful consideration and artistic flair while giving every piece of wood a new purpose.

Meet Florin

Florin is a woodcarver from Transylvania, now living in the Yukon. Growing up surrounded by forests, he developed a deep appreciation for wood’s natural grain, texture, and imperfections. Influenced by the minimalist sculptor Constantin Brâncuși, Florin’s work distills raw material into pure, essential forms.

Florin transforms driftwood, downed trees, and locally sourced wood into intricate sculptures, breathing new life into each piece he creates. His finishing process involves mineral oil and beeswax, enriching the wood’s natural depth and character, while epoxy serves not to conceal flaws but to highlight the strength and beauty within them.
